Kinzler Construction Services is proud to help create housing for Minneapolis, MN area veterans in need by installing insulation in a new homeless shelter free of charge.
Each year, the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans (MACV) receives more than 25,000 contacts, inquiries and requests from veterans across the state who are homeless or experiencing a crisis that could lead to homelessness. Earlier this spring, MACV teamed up with Kinzler’s building partner, Lennar and BATC Housing First Minnesota, to break ground on a home that will house female veterans – a population that is in serious need.
“We’re happy to be able to give back to the community where our team of local insulation installers live and work,” says Kinzler Construction Services General Manager Rick Cobbs. “We’re excited that this house will be able to provide temporary shelter for up to five women at a time.”
Kinzler Construction Services was recently recognized for exemplary support of National Guard and Reserve member employees. Tim Hurn, VP of Operations for Kinzler Construction Services, was named a Patriot Award recipient by the U.S. Department of Defense. The award, given by DOD’s Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), recognizes individuals who practice leadership and personnel policies that support employee participation in the Guard and Reserve.
Hurn was nominated by Iowa National Guard Captain Craig Coder, who serves as the Commander for Alpha Company, 334th Brigade Support Battalion based out of Camp Dodge. Coder is the General Manager of Kinzler’s eastern Iowa Distribution operations.
“Kinzler has helped me grow my career in the military,” Coder said. “And the military has helped my career at Kinzler. I am grateful to work for a company which is flexible and supportive of me as I continue to serve our great country.”
Kinzler actively seeks out National Guard soldiers and people with prior military service and is a Home Base Iowa employer. Interested applicants should visit www.KinzlerCareers.com.
“We have had huge success with veterans as Kinzler employees,” said Hurn, himself a U.S. Navy veteran. “I am honored to accept this award on behalf of Kinzler Construction Services.”
“Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units,” said Michael J. Dayton, an ESGR volunteer who presented the award. “The U.S. Department of Defense is pleased to recognize Kinzler Construction Services as an outstanding organization that has and is continuing to support a strong National Guard and Reserve force.”

Kinzler Construction Services is pleased to be part of a project aimed at ending homelessness among veterans in the Waterloo, IA area.
Local non-profit group “Americans for Independent Living” opened the Veterans Transitional House at 420 E 9th St in Waterloo earlier this spring. The home houses three men, each with his own room and a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom. The goal is to allow the men to live in the home for about a year, helping them find permanent housing and jobs.
Kinzler Construction Services installed insulation into the home, donating half of the total cost of the project back to Americans for Independent Living.
“Kinzler Construction Services is a huge supporter of our nation’s brave veterans,” says Craig Coder, Distribution General Manager for Kinzler’s Waterloo and Cedar Rapids branch locations. Coder is also a Captain with the Iowa Army National Guard. “Kinzler actively seeks out National Guard soldiers and prior military soldiers as employees. And we are proud to do our part to help eradicate the homeless veteran population here in Black Hawk County.”
There are about 30 homeless veterans in Waterloo on any given night according to the Black Hawk County Veteran Affairs Commission.
