What was once Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s first Central Fire Station (built in 1917), turned Science Station, is now getting a remodel and Kinzler Construction Services is on the ground floor. The Cedar Rapids Gypsum Concrete Division worked with Aspect Architecture to come up with a solution to make this historical building ready for new tenants.
The problem is there was no uniformity in the sub floor. Gypsum concrete was a great option for leveling this floor. Gypsum concrete has a number of advantages including that it’s fire resistant and lightweight. Though it weighs less than the average square foot of regular concrete, it still offers the same compressive strength, and has the ability to be laid faster than regular poured concrete.
Gypsum concrete depths throughout this structure differed from 3/4″ all the way to 8”. When finished, the floor was completely level and smooth.

The team at Kinzler’s Minneapolis Headquarters, located in Fridley, MN, recently finished insulating a six-story, nine-unit condominium project by developer Jim Graves. It’s being built by Doran Construction.
The expert Kinzler crews used Dow CM2045 spray foam for the job. This product ensured 100% coverage with no voids and the customer was impressed. In fact, a representative from Dow inspected our installation, commenting to the General Contractor that Kinzler’s crews went above and beyond industry standards for quality control and attention to detail.
Kinzler Construction Services is famous for providing construction supplies and services to commercial, residential and agricultural builders and homeowners. And now Kinzler is getting national attention after being selected as the insulation contractor for the DIY Network TV show “Texas Flip and Move.”
The homes Kinzler is working on now are part of season five and six of “Texas Flip and Move,” set to air on the DIY Network beginning February 10, 2017.
“We’re experts at installing all types of insulation from spray foam to fiberglass batting,” says Scott Wamack, General Manager of Kinzler’s Tyler, TX location (previously Garland & Jones Insulation). “Installing insulation while the TV cameras are rolling takes a little getting used to, but it’s fun! People across the country will now see the high-quality product and service we deliver every day.”
About the Show
“Texas Flip and Move” features three teams of hard-working Texas real estate entrepreneurs competing head-to-head in a fast-paced real estate flipping competition. The flippers are under the gun to buy low, work fast and sell high. When they buy a house at auction, they have to move it off the property that day, a task that can be downright dangerous. Once the house is moved to their lot, it’s a race against time to get it renovated and ready for auction.
Your Spray Foam Experts
Kinzler Construction Services is teaming up on the project with SWD Urethane, a supplier of insulation products across the US & Canada. Kinzler crews are experts at installing spray foam insulation, a two-component mixture made of isocyanate and polyol resin. These two properties combine at the tip of a spray nozzle and form an expanding foam that can be sprayed onto concrete slabs, roof tiles, into wall cavities, or through holes drilled into the cavities of a finished wall. Nice job to our central Iowa distribution crew on this great example of a safe setup for delivery to the new location of the Arcadia Cafe on Welch Ave. in Ames. Our guys were there at 6:30 am to deliver the drywall before students and vehicles were on the move. The team realized the risk of booming over a sidewalk and taped it off, and put up cones to keep vehicles away from the truck when it was in operation. They did a great job keeping everyone out of harms way, and getting the job done safely.
Mezayek Building in Tyler, TX partnered with Garland & Jones Insulating Services to insulate approximately 30 homes in their “Townhomes at Hamilton Ridge” project. Right now, Garland & Jones crews are busy sealing air leaks, installing batt insulation in walls and blowing fiberglass insulation into attics of the townhomes and duplexes. In June, installers insulated the beautiful clubhouse at this gated community using blown-in-blanket (BIBS) and spray foam insulation.
Phase I of this project is set to be complete this fall with more homes being added in the future. Garland & Jones, a Kinzler Construction Services company, is proud to partner with Mezayek Building on this high-quality project!
