Des Moines East Village’s newest retail, dining and upscale residential development is quickly taking shape!
Kinzler Construction services was hired by Heartland Finishes, Inc. to supply the steel framing for the 219 East Grand project, offering 17,000 sq-ft of commercial space as well as 98 residential units, including 13 luxurious Penthouse apartments.
Kinzler’s huge boom lifts easily maneuvered the massive amounts of steel throughout the six-story structure. Our crews then unloaded and delivered the material to install locations. Once constructed, Kinzler Construction Services experts will return to deliver drywall for the building and install insulation and fireproofing material. The building is set to open summer, 2017.
Kinzler Construction Services is partnering with a non-profit charity founded in Ames, Iowa to insulate a church in the East African nation of Uganda. It’s part of Kinzler’s core focus to serve others, build relationships and enrich lives.
Brian Schwartze, Kinzler Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and his 13 year-old son JB will spend nearly two weeks in Uganda. Part of their mission there includes insulating a church and school in the village of Obule. Kinzler Construction Services donated radiant barrier for the project, an insulation system which uses a type of heavy duty aluminum foil which can limit up to 97% of radiant heat transfer.
“Radiant barriers work exceptionally well in sunny climates, like they experience in Uganda,” said Kevin Kinzler, Executive Chairman and Founder of Kinzler Construction Services. “A significant amount of the heat transfer into and out of that church is through radiation. We are happy to be able to support this project which will make a positive impact for those living in this African village.”
Brian and JB also plan to dig wells, supporting the mission of the Clean Water Movement, and put on a baseball clinic or two.
“I’m most excited about this trip because I want to make a large impact on people’s lives,” says JB, who will attend Gilbert Middle School this fall. “I want to make the world better one step at a time. I really want to meet the kids and learn a new culture. When we are there we are going to have a baseball clinic. That will be awesome to teach something that I love to people across the world.”

Kinzler Construction Services was pleased to participate in the first-ever “blitz build” for Waterloo-based Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity. Kinzler joined with other area contractors, suppliers and builders in June, who successfully completed a home in record time – just six days! It’s a process that normally takes as long as six months.
Kinzler Construction Services made a donation for the home’s insulation and volunteered a crew to install it. The donations from Kinzler and others helped to make the home affordable for the Kay Reh family. Kay Reh & Su Meh and their four children are very grateful to have secure safe, affordable, and decent shelter! Several years ago they arrived in Atlanta, Georgia from a Burmese refugee camp and have been in Waterloo for the past four years.
“We are pleased to be able to participate in this Habitat for Humanity Blitz Build,” said Tanner Kinzler, President and CEO of Kinzler Construction Services. “Part of our core focus at Kinzler is to serve others, build relationships and enrich lives. By working together, we are making a difference in the lives of those in the Cedar Valley.”
The Kay Reh-Su Meh home is the 132nd Habitat home to be completed in an area that includes Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly, Evansdale, Parkersburg, La Porte City and Hudson, since 1991.

We can definitely tell a difference in our house after adding the insulation. The AC doesn’t run as long, stays cooler longer and the 2nd floor is much cooler throughout the entire day. The crew did a fantastic job of installing the insulation. The garage with the added insulation (which never had any in the beginning) is cooler as well. We say Thank You to KINZLER CONSTRUCTION SERVICES for a great experience and for a job VERY WELL done. Thanks!
Kinzler Construction Services was recently recognized for exemplary support of National Guard and Reserve member employees at a ceremony in Des Moines, IA. The United States Department of Defense ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve) publicly honored Kinzler as a 2016 Employer Support Freedom Award Nominee. Accepting the award was Kinzler Construction Services Distribution Operations Manager AJ Flander, who served as a Sergeant in the Army Reserves.
The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of employees serving in the Guard and Reserve. Each year, Guard and Reserve employees, or a family member acting on their behalf, have the opportunity to nominate their employer for the Employer Support Freedom Award.
Craig Coder, General Manager of Kinzler’s Waterloo and Cedar Rapids, IA branch locations, nominated Kinzler Construction Services for the award. Coder is a Captain with the Iowa National Guard and just returned from two-weeks of training. In his nomination, Coder says, “Kinzler actively seeks out National Guard soldiers and prior military soldiers. This is because they have had huge success with veterans as employees. They proactively recruit National Guard and Reserve Services members by using a referral program of $1,000 per referral. Currently, close to 10% of the employees are either National Guard or have prior service. During my AT and training periods, they have reached out to my wife to offer support or a helping hand if there was anything my wife needed.”
